Talk to Me About

Talk to me about anything. I love reading and studying. I became a Christian in 1979 and have been living it ever since. I have a Baptist preacher friend who says, “I made stuff happen to my life when I followed Jesus. So I went to school to figure it out and give word and language to what I found." That’s me.

My Family

I’ve been married to Pam Huff (Hagen) for nearly 46 years. We’ve known each other since grade school and started dating our Senior year at Clinton Community High School. I started as an Electrician and she was a LPN. We started our family, then went back to School (which is backwards!). I went to Illinois State University (BA) then Emory University (Mdiv). Pam graduated from West Georgia University (BSEd). We have three daughters (Heidi & Brent, Jacoby, Deryn) (Noel, Hagen, Dublin) (Brenna & Geoff, Parker, Elyse, and Cecily) and one son (Wesley & Chelsey, Phoenix, Luna).  We are a close family and I refer to us as a band of gypsies. We often still get together at our house for Monday night meals. Pam and I help to wrangle grandkids regularly, but especially in the Summer.

Where I’m From

We are both from Central Illinois and grew up in Clinton, IL. If you look me up on Facebook (Rev David L Huff) you can find out more about places we’ve lived and churches we’ve served. We have lived in Central Illinois, West Georgia, Western Illinois, and Southern Illinois.

When I’m not at Nameoki UMC

When I'm not at Nameoki I’m usually at home. You can always reach me by phone at any time. I read a lot. I read theology, literature, history, and politics. I occasionally post articles and reviews from people I follow regularly. Basically, I like people. I love God. And I am glad to be one of your pastors.

Talk to Me About

Anything and everything having to do with the long and beautifully complicated history of Christianity, especially the earliest church. I could also spend hours picking apart the nuanced details in scripture and wrestling with God’s word to try and find the truth beneath its pages. I’m also always up for a good conversation on classic movies, the best museums to visit, and where to find the best barbacue.

My Family

My wife Emma and I have been married for almost nine years now and have a two year old son named James. Emma and I met while in college and bonded over Frisbee and Chicago hotdogs. Our son James is a friendly ball of energy who is enthusiastic about trucks, tractors, bulldozers, and basically anything with large wheels and an engine.

Where I’m From

I grew up in an old farm house outside a small town in central Illinois called Carlock. I went to school twenty minutes away in Bloomington, IL before moving to the “big city” when I went to college at Elmhurst University just outside Chicago.

When I’m not at Nameoki UMC

You’ll find me somewhere on the campus of Saint Louis University where I’m studying to get my PhD in Medieval History. If I’m not there, I’m likely out on a good running path or hunting down a good barbacue joint.
